Pipe Recovery Tools (PRT)

Moving offshore in ever-deeper waters, pipelines for transportation of oil, gas or crude have to be taken down to greater depths. Installation contractors acquire special deep water pipe laying equipment and challenge each other for new water depth records. In case of emergency the pipe must be lowered to the bottom by a heavy winch and cut. IHC Handling Systems has designed special equipment based upon their very successful Internal Lifting Tools (ILT) to retrieve these abandoned pipes and named it Pipe Recovery Tool (PRT).
A special seal arrangement allows for subsea dewatering, which makes dewatering operations a much safer operation. After dewatering the arrangement prevents water from entering the pipe again. At present has designed, and build, equipment to operate on a maximum water depth of 2500m.
